    About the College of Applied Medical Sciences - Hafr Al Batin

    In 1409 AH/1988 CE the Health Institute at Hafr Al Batin was established. This institute offered a program of study that took three and a half years to complete with an additional four-month long internship program. The students who completed this program received an intermediate certificate. As the institute grew and matured it started to offer a two-year nursing diploma program in 1997. A decade later in 2007 the Health Institute of Hafr Al Batin officially became the Health Science College for Women and a part of King Faisal University in Dammam, specializing in nursing and midwifery.

  • Introduction

A decade later in 2007 the Health Institute of Hafr Al Batin officially became the Health Science College for Women and a part of King Faisal University in Dammam, specializing in nursing and midwifery. The typical course of study took three years with a six-month internship period. Upon completion the students received an intermediate certificate. In 2009 the Health Science College for Women became part of the University of Dammam. In 2010 the Health Science College for Women changed not only its name, but its curriculum as well and officially became the College of Applied Medical Sciences with eight new departments:

    The College of Applied Medical Sciences in Hafr Al Batin aspires to be among the leaders in applied medical science and technology and to be recognized on both the national and international levels and be recognized for its teaching, research and service.

    The mission of the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Hafr Al Batin is to provide its students with an education of exceptional quality and to develop the skills and habits of life-long learners. The College aspires to instill the value of research and the importance of ethics.

      Overview

      The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology was established in 1433 AH/2011 CE, as a part of the College of Applied Medical Sciences at the University of Dammam’s Hafr Al Batin campus. The Department’s theoretical curriculum and practical labs provide the students with medical laboratory technology knowledge and skills in order to become innovative professional medical laboratory technologists ready to serve the needs of society.       Career Opportunities

      Graduates of Medical Laboratory Technology program have opportunities to work in hospitals and health centers, public and private. In addition to the employment opportunities in the medical research centers

       

      Year Description:

      First year
      The Preparatory year is spent in the Health track. The students will study basic chemistry, biology and physics as well as forty hours of the English language.

      Second Year
      During the second year students will explore subjects such as: microbiology, biochemistry and recognize medical devices as well as clinical chemistry and hematology, through which the students will learn the methods of measuring and monitoring changes in the human body that occur during illness. They also will learn about blood diseases like leukemia and anemia, molecular biology, medical genetics and the economic system in Islam. Students will also study anatomy and histopathology as well as be exposed to the related laboratories involved with this science.

      Third year
      In third year, students will study medical microbiology and the science of clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, biostatistics and research methodologies. Students will be taught the standard and recognized methods for safe blood transfusions from blood donors to receivers.

      Fourth year
      In the fourth year, students will go through an extensive study of the clinical side of their scientific courses.

      Fifth year
      The fifth year is the Internship year, where the students undergo practical training at hospitals.

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing

      Overview

      The Nursing Department provides a well-rounded and professional education for our students incorporating theory, research-based knowledge and practical experience. The nursing program has a twofold purpose: to prepare highly competent nurses who will meet the needs of society and to develop future nursing leaders who will advance the profession of nursing. Track : Health Level : Undergraduate Degree : BSc Gender : Female Years of study : 5 (1 prep + 3 college + 1 Internship) Credit hours : 135 Additional requirements : Internship

       

      Career Opportunities
      There are numerous career opportunities for nurses, such as work in the following nursing specialties: cardiac, critical care, medical/surgical, oncology, orthopedics, perioperative, primary care, psychiatric/mental Health, rehabilitation, women and infants. There are also options to work in The College of Nursing or the College of Applied Medical Sciences.

      Year Description:
      First year
      After completing the Preparatory year in the Health track successfully, the student will spend the next three years focusing mainly on nursing courses before completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

      Second Year
      In this year the students will explore the following topics: microbiology, parasitology, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, the fundamentals of nursing, nutrition and pathology. The students will also take classes on the economics and political systems in Islam.

      Third year
      During the third year the students will cover the following topics: pharmacology, psychology, psychiatric and mental health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, nursing for obstetrics and gynecology and growth and development.

      Fourth year
      The coursework for the fourth year will go more in depth and the students will cover subjects such as: nursing research, evidenced based practice, nursing management, pediatric nursing, geriatric nursing, epidemiology, biostatistics, critical care nursing as well as public health nursing.

      Fifth year
      The fifth year is the Internship year, where the students undergo practical training at hospitals.
