College of Computer Science and Engineering
  • About

The College of Computer Science & Engineering was established in 2014. The application of computer-based technology is growing at a phenomenal rate. As a result, there is an ongoing demand for engineers who can build complex systems that integrate computer hardware and software. Our curriculum prepares students to enter this challenging new field.
Also, the College and its programs provide the country with an entry point to one of the most recent, most challenging and most promising technologies of our age. Our College was recently established so we are currently running one BS degree program in Computer Science and Engineering and another degree program in software Engineering is under consideration. It is our hope to start postgraduate programs in the near future. We hope our College will soon become one of the best at the University and to be recognized throughout the gulf and many parts of the world.

  • Introduction

The CSE program will give students access to multi-disciplinary problems in engineering. Apart from learning computer science principles that are critical to development of software, hardware, and networking of computer systems. Also, engineering concepts and methods will be added to give students exposure to circuit design, network design, and electronics. Further, the program provides a rich body of electives for the students in two main areas of specialization (referred to as tracks), which were deemed as most important for the local job market (present and future). Students are required to satisfy 2 depth elective courses for each of the two tracks:

    • Computer Systems (SYS) Track - The systems track provides students with a deep understanding of the interaction of software in computer systems. Students completing this track will have acquired working knowledge of the analysis, design, and construction of complex systems software.
    • Computer Networks (NET) Track - The Network track is intended for students who wish to develop state-of-the-art knowledge of network systems technologies and the underlying principles, protocols and algorithms. Networking technologies play a central, driving role in shaping the directions of both the IT and communication industries.

    • Computer Science and Engineering Program

The CSE program which is designed to provide students with the fundamentals of computer science, both hardware and software, and the application of engineering concepts, techniques, and methods.

      Common Freshman Year
Both programs have a common freshman curriculum which is similar to the engineering programs in KFUPM. This helps students to select their major area of study as late as the beginning of the sophomore year.

      Common Core Subjects
Common core subjects cover courses in basic sciences, Mathematics, English, Islamic history and culture, Arabic language and literature, Physical Education, Social and Behavioral Sciences.

      Requirements for Graduation
The duration for each of the programs is 4 years. All university graduation requirements and academic policies apply to the college.

    • Software Engineering Program

The SE program which is designed to provide students with the fundamentals of computer science, both hardware and software, and the application of engineering concepts, techniques, and methods.

The Software Engineering program prepares students for careers as practicing professionals in software architecture, design, implementation, testing, project management, or for graduate study.
